Welcome, Create, Embrace Change

Ramez Baassiri

So many individuals resist, avoid, and dread change. However, in the business world, resistance to change is the root of countless companies’ downfalls. Instead, change should be anticipated and embraced. It can even be a reason for excitement and discovery.

The fact is, there are no limits for reinventing yourself or your business. This idea has been expressed in one form or another in philosophies ranging from Sartre’s assertion that “If man … is indefinable, it is because at first he is nothing. Only afterward will he be something, and he himself will have made what he will be,” to Heraclitus’ belief that “The only thing that is constant is change.”

We all must prepare to deal with change by being ready to embrace the future and grow with it instead of refusing to acknowledge the inevitable: that change will come, whether or not we’re ready for it.

Exponential vs. Linear

Our company has survived on the strength of finding new opportunities and diversification. We have created a business model that reflects an exponential, rather than linear, thinking; spinning one business into the next and always growing in some form or fashion as we stepped from the old investment into the new. In each enterprise, each a standalone entity, we have learned something new and then built on that, refining the knowledge over years and decades, working that DNA into our company systems.

Change is good. Change is necessary. Change is inevitable. Learn to seek it out and be prepared for it – if you do, your business will thrive and capitalize on new opportunities. Visit my site to learn more about how to prepare your family business for change.
