Senior Graphic Designer
A Senior Graphic Designer, Melanie divides her duties evenly between publishing and marketing. In addition to the book covers she crafts for Members, she designs collateral for our ForbesBooks imprint. Whether sketching book cover concepts, interior layouts, or website designs, each work day is characterized by tremendous variety.
To launch cover creation, she sends Members a detailed questionnaire to explore their vision. She then gets on a client call to talk through these points in depth, discuss their stylistic preferences, and offer her own suggestions. After winding the aisles of bookstores to gather inspiration, she conducts her own research into the subject matter of the book. In addition to her expertise in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, she is able to deftly communicate and build trust with Members. It is extremely important to elicit their excitement and make them feel supported throughout the process. She helps craft covers that make a strong visual impression on readers and lure them to the Member’s book.
A graduate of The Art Institute, Melanie launched her career in design with Shelton Interactive, which was later acquired by Advantage|ForbesBooks. Her transition to Advantage was accompanied by a transition to publishing design, a field she hadn’t previously considered, but would later fall in love with. She spends as much time reading books as she spends designing them. JK Rowling, Chloe Benjamin, and Rainbow Rowell are among her favorite authors.
