Are You Virtually Pitch Worthy?

virtually pitch ready

Thanks to Matthew Weiner, creator of the television show Mad Men, I watched Don Draper nail deal after deal by any means necessary. The fictitious advertising executive wined and dined potential clients and those he was chasing; he was masterful.

Maybe your deals did not involve lots of alcohol and questionable value adds, but I bet many included a meal, coffee, or maybe a harmless happy hour. Isn’t that part of developing relationships and building that rapport?

Asking for the sale in a virtual environment still is not normal to us or our prospects. Being comfortable with the virtual medium is a necessity. Learning how to come across naturally in front of your computer or even through an app on your phone is a must. It seems easy, but trust me, as a broadcaster with a media company, this is where I see some brilliant people falter.

Five easy ways to be Virtually Pitch Worthy

  1. Practice looking into the camera and feeling comfortable
  2. Make sure your background is not distracting
  3. Have decent lighting
  4. Check your mic and make sure the audio is clear
  5. Know how to share the screen if you have slides and other materials

Watch the distractions around you like barking dogs, loud music, and the neighbor blowing the leaves too close to your window. Please make sure you have a sign on your door so Amazon packages, UPS, or whoever else could possibly interrupt, doesn’t.

Zoom doom is real with so much interaction in our lives happening on screens. Be fail-proof. You know you’re solving a problem they have but pitching the right solution will crash and burn if you wing it. Practice doesn’t mean perfect, but you’ll have a much better shot at being virtually pitch worthy.
